paros
Paros will always hold a special place in our hearts! This was the only island where we had all seven of us together, the least amount of time to explore, but some of the best memories. We settled into our gorgeous Airbnb in Santa Maria and relaxed by the pool for a bit before heading to Paros Park for a golden hour hike to the Lighthouse of Korakas to watch the sun set over the Aegean. We were the only people making the trek out and I had so much fun bringing up the rear and taking photos of the grassy surroundings in the golden light. I felt like I was back in Big Sur hiking along the rocky coastline dotted with colorful flowers, cerveza in hand. Upon reaching the lighthouse we had a private dance party, Bart proposed, I said yes, we drank champagne, and then we watched the sun disappear from the sky. We had a celebratory dinner at the super romantic harbor-side Mario Restaurant & Café and finished the evening at Agosta Bar just next door.
The next morning I went with Tina and Shandi to explore adorable Naousa while the others slept. Paros was the first of the Cyclades to be commercialized but with the rise in popularity of other islands like Santorini and Mykonos it has become less crowded but still has all the nice perks of shopping and white-painted cobblestone streets. Naousa looks much like the streets of Mykonos Town but more spread out and more charming with pretty flowers and vines wrapping around the white buildings while the sun hits the green leaves in that special way. We picked up some standard Greek breakfast goods from Ragoussis Bakery to bring back to the Airbnb and gather everyone to head to Antiparos.
Antiparos is just a 5 minute ferry ride from Paros and was highly recommended by my friend Lizzy. We loaded into the car and the car onto the ferry and did a little exploring. We made our first stop for lunch at Captain Pipinos then walked to the adjoining Agios Gregorios Beach for some sunbathing, swimming, and greek cold ones. Later, on the North end of the island we walked the main drag and explored the shops lining the streets, each of us ladies buying sandals from the lovely Anthia at Sandali Antiparos. Her husband makes the leather sandals by hand and they are custom fit on site! We then asked a group of kids where to get the best souvlaki and they pointed us to 5F which was very delicious.
I wish we’d had more time on the island to roam because it was very beautiful—not getting to see Lefkes was a major bummer. Can’t wait for the next visit!
